Guitars, vocals, lots of stuff!!!

Now, this has been a very productive weekend!!!
Bruno Bernardo finished his guitars, solos, cleans, acoustics. For the heavy stuff we used the Engl Powerball through an Engl 4x12" cabinet with 2 SM57. He used his Gibson Les Paul guitar, and to get even a different tone from BKD. solos we used a Audix D2 microphone in the cabinet.
Our dear friend Célia Ramos from Mons Lunae/Red Rose Motel and several other projects travelled south to sing with us in one fof the songs. We used a Audio Technica AT4050 microphone and a Studio Projects microphone. Along with Célia, BKD. and Bruno Bernardo did some singing also.
Also Éolo Ámon-Rá finished some keyboards which we could already listen to, and now we're starting to get a feel of what the songs will sound like!!!
Next step will be vocals!!!

Another small studio diary

Well, today Bruno Bernardo recorded acoustic guitars and clean guitars. Used an Epiphone Jumbo acoustic guitar, with a Neumann KM184 mic through a TLA preamp.
For the clean guitars, played a Gibson guitar through the Orange amplifier, an Engl 4x12" cabinet with one SM57 mic.

New studio update!!!

Now, BKD. guitars are done and Ruben is going midway through the bass tracks recordings. For the guitars, BKD. used a Fender Stratocaster and the custom JP guitar for the solos. The Engl Powerball was used with a 4x12" Gallien Kruegger cabinet, and 2 SM57 mics. Clean guitars went through a 1973 Orange amp and a 4x12" Framus cabinet. Also an acoustic guitar was done using a Neumann KM184 and a Studio Projects microphones.
Ruben is using the Ampeg SVTIII head, an Ampeg 1x15" cabinet and a 4x10" Gallien Kruegger cabinet. The homemade sub microphone we made and a SM57 are being used to track the signal.

In Tha Umbra in Studio!!! The Drum tracking sessions

At the moment we're about to start de editing process, making sure every little bit is perfectly in space, so we can advance to bass and guitar tracking. Thus this post is to let everyone get more depth about what we've done.

This time João used his own Premier drumkit. We don't remember which model is, but it was bought back in 1991.

Kick 22" with a Evans EMAD Onyx Black drumhead and used a Electo Voice PL33 and a homemade subkick mic
Snare 14" Pearl Export with a Evans drumhead with a vintage AKG 330 (we tried the "normal" SM57, and this AKG one sounded much better)
Toms 10" 12" and 16" with Remo Emperor white coated , doubleply drumheads, and Audio Technica ATM 350 on Toms 1 and 2 and AKG D112 on the floor tom

Cymbals: Zildjian 14" K-serie, Paiste Heavy Bell 20" ride, Paiste 6" splash, Meinl 10" splash, 12" china splash, 14" crash, 16" crash and 18" china

We used a stereo pair of Audio Technica AT4041 for overhead, a Neumann KM184 for the hi-hat and a Electro Voice PL37 for the ride.

All processed through M-Audio profire with Octane preamps.

In Tha Umbra in Studio!!!

Hello!!! So, today, Saturday 23rd October 2010 we started tracking the drums for our next release. Of course all this process started earlier, after finishing the new songs, pre-production, building the metronome, and last week recording the guiding guitar lines. Last two days were spent getting new drumheads, tuning the drums, trying different microphones until the desired sound was reached. Things started smoothly, and soon we'll have some video reports available. Also we're using my (Bkd.) homemade sub-kick microphone and it's sounding great!!!

New In Tha Umbra work in the making...

Alright, we've been silent for a while now, except for the concert @ Hellgarve Fest, because we've been busy writting and rehearsing new songs. We will not reveal much about this new work at the moment, just letting you know that after fulfilling our 2 album deal with Agonia Records, we will not work with them in the future.
With a handfull of lyrics, some songs composed and tons of random riffs waiting to fill the complex jigsaw In Tha Umbra's music is known about, at the moment we have 2 finished and well rehearsed songs, Intangível and When Chaos Garnisheed.
Expect a broadening of borders, some more hammond madness, some calm and almost atmospheric passages, but, also, some of the most brutal and extreme stuff we've ever done as well. It is difficult to make predictions about when we'll enter the studio, but we certainly hope and will make an effort to have it released around September/October.
